The Job

Responsible for a product area within the Globoforce product suite - the position is within the Product department reporting into the Product Owner Team Manager.

Responsibilities, Skills & Qualifications

Main duties & responsibilities:

  • Work with the Director of Product Management to define the high-level problems on the Product Backlog that, when solved, will help achieve the strategic goals for your product area
  • Work with the Director of Product Management to prioritize the Product Backlog ensuring that inputs from a wide range of internal and external stakeholders are represented
  • Ensure that the backlog is maintained, visible and clear
  • Product Owner for one or more development scrum teams responsible for building your product
  • Effectively communicate the bigger picture roadmap and vision to the scrum teams
  • Continuously refine the backlog with the scrum team(s) to convert the problems on the backlog into user stories which are granular enough to be achieved within a single sprint and still deliver business value
  • Define the initial set of acceptance criteria for each user story
  • Support the scrum team(s) during each sprint to clarify requirements, make priority calls, review test plans and review development work.
  • Participate in Scrum rituals: fortnightly sprint review, retrospectives, sprint planning and daily scrums.
  • Present the Roadmap for your product area to the wider Product and Technology groups at weekly Globoforce Product Roadmap Refinement meetings
  • Present Release Plans for your product area to the wider Product and Technology groups at Release Planning sessions
  • Communicate regularly with Director of Product Management and key stakeholders regarding the progress of development work on your product
  • Monitor and manage the scope and risk on new development in your product area
  • Engaging with the Product Owner Community of Practice to share and evolve processes, tools and product knowledge.


Required skills and experience:

  • 7+ years Information Systems experience including major system implementations particularly in the online services industry.
  • 3+ years working as a Product Owner in an Agile/Scrum product development environment
  • Proven experience of high level planning based only on strategic direction.
  • Adept at engaging with customers, prospects and partners to understand their needs and determine their goals
  • Experience in performing market and competitive analysis
  • Comfortable presenting and demonstrating to an executive-level audience
  • Must be a team player who works well with technical and non-technical people.
  • Has a confident demeanor, takes initiative and makes decisions based on sound judgment/investigation and can be relied on to see objectives through to completion
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to influence all project members and stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership qualities with ability to communicate product vision and decisions across geographically distributed teams.
  • Experience producing mock-ups/wireframes to support user stories and acceptance criteria
  • Ability to balance conflicting priorities – you may be required to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong skills in planning, organization, scheduling, problem solving.
  • Experience working with a distributed development team
  • Experience with Database technologies
  • Experience with UI design and usability
  • Proactive, flexible and adaptable



Education and Qualifications

  • Business/Commerce/Science/IT degree and/or appropriate experience and certificates
